Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
Learn the world’s fastest-growing submission sport
Our adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) programme is designed for complete beginners, all the way to advanced practitioners. It’s one of the fastest-growing martial arts in the world because it works through intelligence, technique, leverage and control – not strength or aggression.
What Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (also known as ‘Jiu-Jitsu’ or ‘BJJ’) teaches you how to control an opponent on the ground using positioning, joint locks and chokeholds, aiming to force a safe, controlled submission known as a ‘tap’.
A core principle of BJJ is that a smaller, lighter person can defend against and overcome a larger opponent using leverage, timing and technique, rather than aggression and power. Our BJJ classes teach you how to:
- Control and escape from key positions like guard, mount, side control and back control
- Pass and retain guard under pressure
- Transition smoothly between dominant positions
- Apply submissions including armbars, guillotines, triangle chokes, rear naked chokes and leg locks
- Build confidence, strength and mental resilience under pressure
What is ‘rolling’ in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
‘Rolling’ is live drilling with your training partners (known in other martial arts as ‘sparring’). This allows you to apply techniques against fully resisting partners in a controlled, safe environment, helping you develop your timing and confidence.
Rolling also plays a vital role in your progression, because BJJ belts aren’t just earned through attendance and your technical understanding – they’re earned through your performance in drilling and live training, too.
